Coimbatore: The Rotary Club of Coimbatore West and the Coimbatore Makkal Sevai Maiyyam jointly organised the Thiruvalluvar Day celebrations. BJP State General Secretary Vanathi Srinivasan took part as the Chief Guest at the event titled 'Thirukkuralai Semippoam'. Rotary Club West President Jeyagandhan and Secretary Rajendran participated in the event.

More than 50 children took part in the event and recited Thirukkural. They were later gifted with piggy banks.
Speaking at the event, Vanathi Srinivasan said, " Thriukkural is a remarkable symbol of the language. All vital life lessons are taught by Thirukkural. PM Modi has said that Tamil is older than Sanskrit and that he is keen to learn the language."
Stressing the importance of the mother tongue, she said, "Mother tongue is like the eyes of a person and other languages can only act as spectacles. Parents must teach children the importance of their mother tongue and stress the necessity of being honest."
Julian, Bautisan and Claus - students from Germany and Brazil, recited Thirukkural and were gifted piggy banks by Vanathi Srinivasan.
