Coimbatore: Even as there are 28 elephants in the Elephant Rejuvenation camp at Thekkampatti in Mettupalayam, the hair style and long hair of Senkamalam, has become the centre of attraction at the camp site.

The elephant that serves at the Mannargudi Gopalasami temple maintains the longest hair for any temple elephant in Tamil Nadu, and is drawing more people to the campsite.

In order to maintain the hair, Rajagopal, the mahout of the elephant washes the elephant’s hair with reetha, shikakai and other organic cleansers.

According to mahouts in the camp, "It is a rarity that that elephants posses such long hair. The spectators especially children are in awe with Sengamalam's long stylish hair."
As Pongal holidays have begun, hundreds of people thronged the Elephant Camp at Thekkampatti. As part of Pongal celebrations at the camp, all elephants were fed with Pongal and Sugarcane.
