With just a day to go, the market areas - Flower market, Gandhipuram and Townhall is buzzing with people who are busy shopping Pongal condiments and pooja items.
The price of flowers has increased ahead of the festivity, as per kg of Kanagambaram flower is sold at Rs.2,000.
"Marigold is sold at Rs.150 per kg, Sevvandhi at Rs.180, Arali at Rs.220, Nandhiyavattam at Rs.300 and Roses at Rs. 220 per kg. However, non-availability of jasmine flowers disappointed the customers, especially women", said a vendor from Poo Market.
A farmer from Poo Market selling sugarcanes noted that this year, sugarcanes are sold at Rs.15 piece sugarcane and the bunch costs Rs.370.
"Last year, the canes were sold for Rs.400. Due to high yield, the price of sugarcane has gone down this year. Peoples are showing great interest in buying the canes. The cost depends on the cane`s height and thickness", he said.
