Coimbatore: After 43 days of imprisonment, Tamil Puligal Katchi leader, Nagai Thiruvalluvan was released on bail today. He was given an astounding welcome by his party cadres here. Among others, K. Ramakrishnan of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Thirumurugan Gandhi, Coordinator of May 17 movement were present.

Nagai Thiruvalluvan was one of the 25 members who were arrested for staging a protest against the death of 17 people in a wall collapse in Nadur Village in Mettupalayam on December 2, 2019. The next day, all the arrested were granted conditional bail by Mettupalayam Judicial Magistrate. However, Nagai Thiruvalluvan was arrested in a stone pelting case in Dharapuram, the next day.

He was remanded by Dharapuram judicial Magistrate and sent to Coimbatore Central prison.

Speaking to the press after his release, he alleged that the 'untouchability wall' had claimed the lives of 17 Dalit people. He further accused the government for arresting people who voice for the under-privileged people. "Those who voice against the government or for socially backward people are booked under fake cases and oppressed", he alleged.

"The State government should not forget to keep up its promise of providing solatium and welfare assistance to the victim's family. In case of any lapse, we will gather people and stage another protest", he notified.

Commenting on CAA, he said that the Act should be repealed.
