The Nilgiris: To make the 62nd Coonoor Fruit Show a grandeur event, the horticulture department have already begun preparatory works by planting flower saplings.
The annual fruit show which attracts over 50,000 visitors will be held in May. Different types of fruits grown locally around the Nilgiris and exotic fruits varieties grown at the Pomological centre in Coonoor, will also be displayed.
Led by Pabitha, Deputy Director of Horticulture, a mega planting drive was initiated today at the Sims Park, Coonoor. Around 2.6 lakh saplings were planted in pots and in the garden area of the park.
A wide range of flowering plants including imported varieties from abroad like Petunia, Antirrhinum, Balsam, Peconia, Dianthus, Pansy, Salvia, Alyssum, Guinea, Marie Gold, French and Single and Double Layer Dalia were planted.
For the first time, 84 officers and staff of the Horticulture Department were involved in the planting. The floral saplings planted in the park are expected to bloom during April end and May.
