Tirupur: Claiming that usage of TikTok App is leading to several criminal incidents including sexual abuse of minor girls, a family of minor girl who got impregnated by an elderly man after they got introduced to each other through Tik Tok petitioned to the Tirupur District Collector, on Monday to ban the App.

The petitioner who are relatives of a 16-year-old minor girl in Tirupur alleged that usage of TikTok App has shattered their family. "Our girl was impregnated by a man named Velmurugan from Palladam who got introduced to each other through TikTok App. Devastated by the news, the girl's father self immolated himself and succumbed on December 27, 2019."
Later, Velmurugan was arrested by Tirupur All Women's police station and was booked under POCSO.
The family who are reeling under distress have requested the District Collector to ban the App and to file a criminal charge sheet against Velmurugan's bail.
It may be recalled that several petitions were filed in the Court seeking ban on the App. In one such petition, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court, which heard a petition against the app, on Wednesday said children who were using TikTok were vulnerable to exposure to sexual predators.
TikTok is an application used to create, upload or share sh.ort lip-syncing comedy or music videos. And, has 54 million active users in India.
