Coimbatore: Alleging that farmers from Ooty, Coonoor are given priority in setting up shops at Uzhavar Sandhai in R.S. Puram and Singanallur, the local farmers here have petitioned the District Collector to ensure fair distribution of shops.

Acknowledging their demand, a petition was filed on behalf of Tamilnadu Farmers Association on Monday to the District Collector requesting fair allocation of shops for the local farmers, at the R.S. Puram and Singanallur Uzhavar Sandhai.
Speaking to the press, the President of the association S. Palanisamy said, "Farmers from Thondamuthur, Kinathukadavu, Sulur and other areas cultivate cabbage, beetroot and other vegetables and bring it for sale to Uzhavar Sandhais. However, they are not allotted shops in the market. This is clearly a preferential treatment to the other farmers especially from Nilgiris district."

They urged the District Collector to intervene in the sisue and allocate shop space for the local farmers at the Uzhavar Sandhai.
