Valparai: The Municipal Commissioner had received repeated complaints that the use of plastic has increased in stores in Valparai in Coimbatore district. Following this, Municipal Commissioner Pavanraj inspected the market areas on Sunday. He confiscated the plastics in use in street shops, bakeries and grocery stores and penalised them with a fine.

He warned the Sunday market and shop owners that if they fail to avoid the use of plastics, the offenders’ shops will be sealed. During the inspection, 13 shops were fined Rs 1000 each for using plastics in their stores. 24 stores were issued a warning note.
He also visited the Amma Unavagams in the Market area and heard the grievances from the employees there. He also advised them to stay healthy. He also ordered the immediate removal of encroachments in the market area. Municipal Commissioner Pavanraj and other officers including Overseer Sivakumar participated.
