Coimbatore: As a part of Kovai Vizha, NGOs working for restoration of rivers, lakes and water bodies of Coimbatore came together yesterday evening to celebrate Rain and the volunteers who worked round the year in the city’s water bodies.
Coimbatore: As a part of Kovai Vizha, NGOs working for restoration of rivers, lakes and water bodies of Coimbatore came together yesterday evening to celebrate Rain and the volunteers who worked round the year in the city’s water bodies.
The event began with a folk dance by "Sangamam group" who danced their way celebrating Mother Nature and Rainfall. NGOs working in Coimbatore to restore water bodies were felicitated after a multi religious song by students of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Municipal Administration, S.P. Velumani extended his wishes to the organisations working towards restoration of water bodies in Coimbatore. "Water bodies in Coimbatore which were dry few years ago were brought to life by the work of these organisations. The government in its part will extend maximum support to them. Rs. 230 crores have been alloted for Noyyal rejuvenation by the state government two days ago. Even under Smart City project, 8 lakes have been taken up for rejuvenation and now Kurichi lake has been added to the list. In a few months time Coimbatore will have a different look with lakes filled with water always and beautified lake sides where people can sit and relax".
"GO for airport expansion has been issued before two days, aquisition of 600 acres for the same has been sanctioned and Coimbatore will have an international airport with highest standards in the few years," added the Minister.
Vanitha Mohan, Managing trustee, Siruthuli, Kowsika Selvaraj, Prawin Kumar, Chairperson Kovai Vizha, members of various Non governmental organisations, students and members of public were present at the event.
