Coimbatore: Shantimathi (55), who contested in Ward 7, Sulur for District Councilor was elected uncontested as District Chairman.
The District Collector announced that she had been elected uncontested, as no one else had filed nomination for the post.
Radhaveni of KMDK, who contested on behalf of the DMK alliance in Pollachi North Union East, did not vote in the election. Of the total 17 District Councillors, 16 participated in the secret ballot held to elect District Chairman.
Shantimathi is the wife of Thoppu Asokan (55) Deputy Secretary of State MGR forum.
And, AIADMK's T K. Amul Kandasamy secured 12 votes and was elected as the District Vice Chairman.
