Innocent Divya urged the parents from poor economic status not to abandon their new born instead put them in the cradle placed at Botanical garden or hand them over to Orphanages.

Innocent Divya urged the parents from poor economic status not to abandon their new born instead put them in the cradle placed at Botanical garden or hand them over to Orphanages.
Speaking about such heart-wrenching incidents, Nilgiris District Collector J Innocent Divya noted, "Earlier another child whom we named as Iniyan, was found abandoned near the Manjanakorai area in Ooty. He was given to a child care center in Tirupur. Last week, another male child was found in a abandoned state in Ooty botanical garden. The district administration recovered the new born and named him as Pranesh. Today, he was handed over to an adoption centre, where the child will begin its new life."
Citing the recent incident in Kotagiri where a mother killed her new born, the Collector urged the parents to stop abandoning their children stating poor economic status or other reasons.
"Instead of throwing away children in pathways and forest areas, the parents should hand over the child to orphanages or place them in the cradle placed by the district administration, so that they are given a chance to live", she opined.
"To ensure privacy, there are no CCTV cameras around the area where cradles are placed", she added.
The Collector informed that children who are handed over to adoption centres will be given away for adoption under the central government guidelines, to willing parents.
Child Welfare Group members Muni Rathnam, Shanmuganathan, M. Kannan, Y. Mary, District Child Welfare Officer (Incharge) Amy Malu participated in the event.
