Expo on traditional and herbal medicines held at District Collectorate

Coimbatore: As part of 3rd National Siddha day, the National Institute of Siddha is conducting several programmes and expos to create awareness among the people. In one such camp held at District Collectorate today, traditional and medicinal plants and herbal products were kept for display.

The organisers said that the event is being held to commemorate the birth anniversary of Agasthiyar, Ancient Tamil Sidhar which falls on January 13. 

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Dhanam, a Siddha practitioner, said, "There are 75 Siddha hospitals in the district. As awareness on Siddha medicine is prevalent among the masses, many people visit Siddha hospitals to cure ailments. Especially after the introduction of 'Varma' treatment, the footfalls has increased."

  

Commenting on 'Amma' maternity scheme, she said, "From the onset of pregnancy upto delivery, the scheme covers everything. Free vitamin tablets and nutritional supplements are also distributed to expecting mothers. Pregnant woman who come for check ups are monitored closely and advised on food habits to ensure they deliver normally instead of a C-section."



Various medicinal plants were kept on display at the camp in District Collectorate to create more awareness among the people on chosing natural ways to cure ailements. All visitors were given free Nilavembu decoction.
