As the festival is nearing, distribution of gift hampers and cash has commenced in several districts and villages across Tamil Nadu. Distribution of pongal gift worth RS. 1.81 crore was flagged off jointly today at Mettupalayam by Rajya Sabha MP A.K. Selvaraj and MLA O.K. Chinnasamy.
The Pongal hamper is a assortment of rice, sugar, cardamom and sugarcane along with Rs.1000 cash.
Following the inauguration, gift hampers were distributed to the ration card holders. Gift hampers will be distributed from today until January 13, 2020.
