Organised by Thodar Samuthaya Munnetra Sangam, at the HADP auditorium, Ooty, representatives of six tribal communities - Thodar, Kothar, Kurumbar, Irular, Paniyar and Kaatu Nayakkar attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the tribals pointed that few people in the Nilgiris have been fakely claiming to be from 'Malai Vedan Community', a scheduled tribe indigenous to Kanyakumari region.
"To get priority in jobs, benefits of welfare schemes and all the related perks of belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, few people have been producing false caste certificates", they alleged.

A resolution was also passed to identify people who have been misusing ST benefits. The members also decided to evict candidates who used bogus caste certificates to win the Panchayat elections.
