Tirupur: Traders at Poo market in Tirupur staged an agitation in Kamaraj road on Thursday condemning the City Corporation for initiating the demolition process of stalls in Old Poo Market area.
As part of the smart city project, the Tirupur Corporation announced to demolish stalls and buildings in the old Poo Market area. A notice in this regard was issued to the traders informing of demolition after Pongal festival.
The busy Poo market turned chaotic as the officials from Corporation attempted to initiate the demolition process, today. A verbal tussle broke out between the traders and the corporation officials demanding to stop the demolition.

Irked by the move, the traders shut their shops and protested near Kamaraj road demanding to stop the demolition works "The officials notified to start the demolition process after Pongal but they showed up today without prior announcement", the traders told.
Following the agitation, the police arrive to the spot and pacified the traders and negotiated with the corporation officials to postpone the demolition to a later period. The incident created a furore in the area for a brief time.
