Coimbatore: "Cadres and executive members of Coimbatore District Communist Party of India will extend all support for the nation-wide bandh called-for by the trade Union against the anti-people and labour policies of the Centre on January 8, 2020", said District Secretary V. S. Sundaram here on Tuesday.
The central trade unions - AITUC, CITU, INTUC, HMS and AICCTU have notified that they will go on a nation-wide strike on January 8 to protest against anti-labour policies of the government.
V.S. Sundaram also sought the support of the people, by saying "The general public can express their solidarity and extend their support for the protests by not driving their vehicles."
Briefing on the bandh in which supposedly 25 Crore people are about to participate, the CPI District Secretary said "The strike has been called against the Centre"s policies which is against the people and the labourers.
"Rising price of essential commodities, unfair revision of labour laws and legislations, undermining labour rights, demanding equal pay for equal labour, removing gratutity ceiling and protection of micro and small businesses from dying out, privatisation of public sector, BSNL-MTNL merger, attack on JNU students and others, are the reason that has triggered the nation-wide bandh", he added.
He assured full support and participation of the party cadres and supporters for the protests that have been planned for in Coimbatore, Valparai, Pollachi and Mettupalayam.
It may be noted that the trade unions have expressed condemnation against violence unleashed on JNU violence and similar incidents in other university campuses. The trade unions have assured solidarity with students and teachers all over India.
