Coimbatore: All the 17 district councillors elected in the recent local body polls sworn in today in the presence of District Collector and District Election Officer, K. Rajamani on Monday.
Elections for Local Body Polls for rural areas were held on December 27 and 30, 2019. Following results on January 2, 2020, a total of 2434 new members were elected on the District including 17 District Councillors, 155 Panchayat Union Ward members, 228 Grama Panchayat members and 2034 Grama Panchayat Ward members.
17 district councillors sworn in today, of which 10 were AIADMK members, 5 DMK members, and 2 BJP members. During the swearing in, the AIADMK elected candidates thanked the CM, Deputy CM EPS and Minister SP Velumani for their support.
The DMK members while swearing-in raised slogans in favour of DMK leader, MK Stalin.
District Collector K.Rajamani in a press meet said, said that the local body elections were held in peaceful manner. The election for the post of Coimbatore District Panchayat President and Vice-President will take place on January 11, 2020 and the election will be held in a fair manner without any violations. He also added that 91 people have been prosecuted for election violations, until now.
District Collector K. Rajamani, DRO Ramathurai Murugan, SP Sujit Kumar, Kavundampalayam MLA Aarukutty, Urban Development Executive Director Ramesh Kumar, Co-operative Sub-Registrar Palanisamy were present.
