Nilgiris: The Kota tribes in Kotagiri Nilgiris celebrated the Kambatarayar festival with traditional dance and festivities. The Kambattarayar festival was celebrated with great fervour at the Ayyanoor Ammanur Temple, the clan deity of the Adivasi Kota tribe in Kotagiri, Nilgiris District.
Nilgiris: The Kota tribes in Kotagiri Nilgiris celebrated the Kambatarayar festival with traditional dance and festivities. The Kambattarayar festival was celebrated with great fervour at the Ayyanoor Ammanur Temple, the clan deity of the Adivasi Kota tribe in Kotagiri, Nilgiris District.
The festival was attended by a large number of Kota people, who worshipped their Goddess and enjoyed the traditional dance. This year's festival kicked off on 4 November, 2019 at Puthu Kotagiri, a village located on the Kotagiri-Coonoor road.
Today being the main day for celebrations, this morning, all the people of Puthu Kotagiri dressed in their cultural dresses and came to the Ayyanoor Ammanur Temple, which is considered to be centuries-old.
Four priests in the temple offered prayers and worshipped Kambatarayar. Following this, all the people of the Kothar community worshipped their ancestors and with traditional musical instruments danced in front of the temple.
After this event, the temple was again closed to be reopened next year
