Demanding to revoke CAA, NRC and condemning the attack on the protestors of CAA, in a joint statement, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-Liberation, the All India Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party have announced a week long protest starting from January 1 to 7 and a nation wide strike on January 8.

As part of these ongoing protests, CPI (M) and CPI jointly organised an agitation in support of the strike in front of Powerhouse near Sivananda Colony in Coimbatore on Saturday.
In the agitation that was led by MP P.R. Natarajan, the leftist cadres raised slogans against the central government and alleged them of forcing anti-people and anti-labour policies.

As the Police had denied permission for the agitation, all protestors including MP P.R. Natarajan, CPI(M) Coimbatore District Secretary V. Ramamoorthy, State Committee member C. Padmanabhan, CPI District Secretary V.S. Sundaram, Former MLA Arumugam, Sivasami, Devaraj and hundreds of others were courted arrested.
