The Nilgiris: Candidates who contested in the recently held rural local body polls from Doddabetta Panchayat in the Nilgiris district staged a demonstration in front the residence of the Nilgiris Collector demanding a re-election in the area.

The results of the recently conducted local body elections for rural areas were announced on January 2, 2020. The vote counting for the areas under the Ooty Panchayat were held at Finger Post, Government Polytechnic College.
Alleging that there has been a confusion in the vote counting and thereby the results have been manipulated, the candidates who contested for the Doddabetta Panchayat in Ooty laid siege to the District Collector, J. Innocent Divya's residence located near the Government Guest House.
Later, they met the Collector and submitted their petitions urging re-election. They mentioned that there had been confusion with the number of votes counted and that the results may have been wrongly entered.
The Collector who received their petitions said an inquiry would be carried and a decision would be made on it after a thorough investigation. Following, an assurance from the Collector, the protestors dispersed.
