A group of tea estate workers near Gundupet Colony in Kotagiri alerted the Police after they spotted a new born baby in a half buried state.
During the investigation, the police inquired to the residents of the area and came to know about Muthu Lakshmi, a woman who had recently delivered a baby.
Upon an enquiry with Muthulakshmi, she confessed that on December 27, she killed her new born baby and buried it in near a tea estate in Gundupet Colony. She further confessed that after her husband's death, she had been in an affair with a man and got pregnant. Later, after delivery she decided to kill the child and bury it to avoid others questioning on her illicit relationship.
The police arrested Muthulakshmi and remanded her. The incident of a mother killing her new born and burying it has shook the residents of Kotagiri.
