Gomathi Senthil, an independent candidate who contested for the post of Mavuthampathi Panchayat President in Madukarai Union was reported to have won by 12 PM itself, however it is alleged that even after 4 hours, official declaration of her victory was not released.
Commenting on this, Candidate Gomathi Senthil said, "I got 900 votes. The AIADMK candidate Sasikala lost by 10 votes as she secured only 890 votes. But my victory has not been officially announced yet."
Meanwhile, supporters of Gomathi Senthil, who were outside the vote-counting centre, laid siege and demanded that her victory be announced. At the same time, opposition supporters also blocked and demanded a recount.
Additional Police were deployed at Madukkarai Counting Centre after representatives of candidates entered into a verbal war with each other.
