Coimbatore: The process of counting of votes polled in the two-phased rural local bodies held on December 27 and 30 has begun since Thursday morning 8 AM. After counting of postal votes, segregation of ballots has commenced across all counting centres in the district of Coimbatore. As ballot papers in four different colours were used in the poll instead of the electronic voting machines (EVM), the election staff are segregating the ballots based in colors before commencing the counting.

Madukkarai Panchayat Union consists of nine panchayats including Malumichampatti, Palathurai, Arisipalayam, Sirupalayam, Pichanur, Mayileripalayam, Nachippalayam, Vazhukupaarai and Mavuthampatti.
247 candidates have contested for a total of 100 posts including District Councilor 1, Union Councilor - 6, Panchayat Chairperson - 9 and Panchayat Ward Member - 84.
At about 7.30 this morning, the seal of the room where the ballot boxes were kept was removed in the presence of Sundari, Madukkarai Regional Development Officer Sundari. 200 ballots from 74 polling stations are kept at Madukkarai Government Secondary School.
In the first phase, 18 boxes from Mavuthampatti Panchayat were opened and shown to the agents. After that the work of dividing the four colour sheets is underway. The counting of postal votes has been completed.
