Chennai: Expressing their strong condemnation against the controversial and derogative remarks made by Nellai Kannan against Prime Minister and the Home Minister, the Tamil Nadu State leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party staged an agitation in Chennai on Wednesday.

Nellai Kannan, the Tamil orator sparked controversy after he addressed an anti-CAA gathering in Tirunelveli on Sunday and passed violence inciting comments on the PM and HM and allegedly sexist remarks on Smriti Irani, Minister of Textiles. The controversial video sparked outrage amid the BJP party, whose State leaders including H. Raja insisted on immediate arrest of Nellai Kannan.
Later, an FIR was filed by him under Section 502 and 504(2) by S. Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police Tirunelveli District. Demanding his arrest, the BJP leaders warned of a dharna on January 1, 2020.
Today, the BJP State leaders led by H. Raja, National Secretary, gathered at Marina beach in Chennai. However, the police citing law and order issue urged them to shift the protest site to Mylapore. Former Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, Former MP CP Radhakrishnan, National Council Member, LA Ganesan, State General Secretary, Vanathi Srinivasan and others took part.
They raised slogans to arrest Nellai Kannan for his provocative comments which indirectly threatens the life of the PM and HM.
