"Candidate-appointed agents should be present at the counting centres by 6:00 AM on January 2, 2020. The agents are required to provide appropriate identity card. Agents visiting the counting centre are prohibited from bringing cell phones, firearms, knives, blades, weapons, drinking bottles, ink bottles, ink pens, beedi, cigarettes and liquor. Prohibited items will be confiscated", the statement said.
In addition, it has been informed that the agents are allowed to view the ballot count from the room allotted for them. The activities of agents will be monitored by CCTV cameras and if any agent is found to be disturbing or engaging in argument within the voting counting staff, they will be expelled immediately, the election officer warned.
In a joint statement, the Nilgiris District Election Officer/District Collector J Innocent Divya and Superintendent of Police V Sasimohan have requested all the agents at the vote counting centre to cooperate with the rules to ensure fair counting.
Elections have been completed in two phases for 4 panchayat unions in the Nilgiris district, 393 grama panchayat wards, 35 grama panchayat presidents, 59 municipal council wards and 6 district panchayat wards.
Vote counting and election result will be announced on January 2, 2020. Counting will take place at Government Polytechnic College, St. Anthony's School in Coonoor, Government High School in Kotakkari and St. Thomas' Higher Secondary School, Gudalur.
