Coimbatore: In a joint raid by the City Police and the Food and Safety officials, Rs. 1.6 worth of banned tobacco products were seized from two shops in Puliyakulam in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
Coimbatore: In a joint raid by the City Police and the Food and Safety officials, Rs. 1.6 worth of banned tobacco products were seized from two shops in Puliyakulam in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
Upon orders from City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan and under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (L&O), Balaji Saravanan, a special team was formed to nab traders who were dealing banned tobacco products like gutka.
During one such inspection on Tuesday, the Police and officials from food and safety department inspected several shops and seized 130 kgs of banned tobacco products from Shanmuga Stores and Hariharan Stores in Puliakulam.
The Police said that samples of the seized goods have been sent for testing and based on the results appropriate cases will be filed on the traders. The seized tobacco products are estimated to be worth RS. 1.6 lakhs.
