Coimbatore: "If the newly amended Citizenship Act comes into effect, it will divide people on the basis of religion and create animosity in the nation. The secular status of the Indian Constitution is now under threat. It is the first time after 1947 that we are confronting the Centre for altering the constitution", opined Sanjay Jha, Congress Spokesman at District Congress party office here on Monday.

It is the first time after 1947 that we are confronting the Centre for altering the constitution", opined Sanjay Jha, Congress Spokesman at District Congress party office here on Monday.
Addressing the media here, the Congress Spokesperson expressed his strong disapproval against CAA and NRC. He slammed that in order to divert people's attention from various flaws of this government including their poor economic policies, the BJP government has amended the Citizenship Act and created a ruckus in the nation.
"Can Modi government tell the nation as to how much black money was retrieved from the demonetization exercise?; Can they reveal the true numbers of farmers who committed suicide or Can they reveal the Prime Minister's Educational qualification?. With so many questions pending, the present Central Government is keen on asking people to submit proof for Citizenship", he lambasted.
Briefing on the drawbacks of CAA and NRC, he said "Not just Muslims, CAA is against Dalit people, tribals and other minorities. With subsidies already being granted through Aadhaar, what is the need to provide them through NRC? The Citizenship Amendment has been urgently adopted because by implementing NRC in Assam it was found that many of the illegal entrants are non-Muslims."
He added that after more than 20 civilians who fought democratically against this law were killed in Police brutality, the Prime Minister has spoken out and expressed his grief.
