Coimbatore: According to a announcement from the City Police, flyovers at Avinashi Road, North Coimbatore and Gandhipuram will be closed on account of New Year’s Eve to prevent untoward incidents. The flyovers will remain closed from 8 PM of Tuesday to 4 AM of Wednesday.

"Three tier security arrangements have been formed on Tuesday and 1,500 personnel including Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners will be on duty. The cops would be deployed on Avinashi Road, Race Course Road, Gandhipuram, R S Puram, Pollachi Road and Palakkad Road. They would carry out patrolling in 44 patrol bikes and 26 patrol four-wheelers between 8pm on Tuesday and 4am on Wednesday", an official release said.
Main junctions like Lakshmi Mills, VK Road Junction, Anna statue Junction will be open for traffic on Avinashi Road and remaining junctions would be cordoned off with barricades.
Speeding drivers and drunken drivers would be detained in the shamiyanas set up at 25 check points.
