Coimbatore: As of 5 pm today, the second phase of local body elections (rural) held at Sulur, Sultanpet, SS Kulam, Annur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Thondamuthur and Karamadai in Coimbatore district has come to an end.
Earlier, as the polling commenced, District Election Officer / District Collector, K. Rajamani along with Thasildhar Mahesh and other government officials inspected the polling booths at Periyanaickenpalayam Panchayat Union and other Panchayats. including Somayampalayam, Kasthurinaickenpalayam primary school, Kalappanaickenpalayam middle school, Paniimadai primary school, Kanuvai primary school, Kurudampalayam Panchayat's Palanikavundamputhur primary school, and Asokapuram Government higher secondary school, Girls higher secondary school.
878 polling stations were set up in 415 polling booths in the seven panchayat unions where the second phase of elections were held. Of these, 152 were ear-marked to be high risk.
Of these, polling at 37 booths were videotaped, three centres were equipped with CCTV cameras and the remaining booths were surveyed by polling station officers.
All polling stations were equipped with all the basic facilities such as yours, drinking water facilities, fan and waiting benches.
4017 contested for 1214 seats in the second phase of the local body elections which has a total of 5,47,295 voters in the seven panchayat unions.
While the first phase of election recorded 77.23% voters turn out, the district administration is yet to announce the voter turn out for today's local body polls.
