Coimbatore: On Thursday, the city of Coimbatore waited with baited breath to witness the spectacular once-in-a-100 years celestial solar eclipse event and were largely disappointed as the sun was blocked by a thick cloud cover.

Due to cloudy skies in most parts of Coimbatore, people who had gathered in large numbers in various locations organised by various astronomy clubs and schools to witness the eclipse were left totally disappointed. People with solar glasses were seen standing in their terrace patiently waiting for the cloud cover to give way for the sight of the eclipse.

However, people from Echanari, Kuniyamuthur, Selvapuram and Madukkarai were able to see the last bit of the ring of fire. Pictures of the solar eclipse have been widely shared in social media.
