Special arrangements made in 20 locations in Coimbatore to view solar eclipse

Coimbatore: Senior Scientist DV Venkateswaran, from Vigyan Prachar Center, said that the Solar eclipse will be visible in Coimbatore for 1.5 minutes and 20 centres have been arranged in the city for the public to view the solar eclipse.


Coimbatore: Senior Scientist DV Venkateswaran, from Vigyan Prachar Center, said that the Solar eclipse will be visible in Coimbatore for 1.5 minutes and 20 centres have been arranged in the city for the public to view the solar eclipse.

DV Venkateswaran, the Senior Scientist of the Vigyan Prachar Center, told reporters at the Coimbatore press conference Hall in Addis Road, here that the solar eclipse will be visible across India between 8 am to 11.15 am, tomorrow.

"The solar eclipse will be visible in ten places including Coimbatore, Avinashi, Erode, Karur, Tirupur and Pudukkottai. At around 9:30 am the fire ring phase of the eclipse can be seen.The eclipse will be visible in Coimbatore for 1.5 minutes and for 3 minutes in Ooty and Kangeyam. And, partial eclipse will be visible in the districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram and other Southern districts", he told. 

He clarified that the solar eclipse is a natural phenomenon and there is no need to panic about it. He said that it is a myth that one should not eat cooked food, and pregnant women should not come out drying eclipse. 

Arrangements have been made to enable people witness solar eclipse at 20 places in Coimbatore district. He cautioned that people should not see the sun directly on any day and it would affect the eye. 

He advised people to view the eclipse through solar glass and not through cooling glass. He added it is safe to view the eclipse for 3 minutes while wearing solar glasses.

He further added, it is advisable to take intervals while viewing the eclipse and said last time the fire ring eclipse was viewed in Kanyakumari in 2010. He also said next solar eclipse will be visible in Tamil Nadu only by 2034.
