Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 46-year-old Forest Guard working with the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) was trampled to death by a wild elephant here on Monday.
Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 46-year-old Forest Guard working with the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) was trampled to death by a wild elephant here on Monday.
The deceased Mahendran, was on his way along with forest field staff to set up camera traps inside STR at Pudubeerkadavu reserve in Sathyamangalam Range, when a wild elephant chased them.
Mahendran had fell twice and was helped by foresters. However, a previous surgery he had had slowed him down and he was attacked by the elephant.
He succumbed after sustaining severe injuries to his head. His mortal remains were retrieved and sent to the Sathyamangalam Government Hospital for autopsy.
Mahendran had joined the forest force in 2010 and had been serving in and around STR, since then.
Meanwhile, foresters have expressed their grief over the untimely demise of Mahendran.
