Coimbatore: Upon orders from Commissioner of Police, Sumit Sharan, all the six accused involved in sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Coimbatore have been booked under Goondas Act.
On November 26, 2019, Manikandan, Karthik (a) Puffs Karthik and their accomplices Rahul, Prakash, Narayanamoorthy and Karthikeyan sexually assaulted and videographed a 17-year-old girl in a park near Seeranaickenpalayam here.
Following this the All Women Police Station filed cases under sections 09/2019 u/s 5(u)r/w6, 9(g) r/w 10, 13 r/w 14 and 17 of POCSO Act 2012, and 354 (B), 506 (ii) IPC and arrested them. The Mahila Court sentenced them to imprisonment at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Meanwhile, the City Commissioner has ordered to book all the six accused under Goondas Act (The Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug- offenders, Forest - offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic offenders, Sand- offenders, Slum- grabbers and Video Pirates Act, 1982 (Tamil Nadu Act 14 of 1982).
Inspector of Police R. Prabhadevi of All Women Police Station (West) today apprised the accused at the prison of the Goondas Act slapped on them.
