Coimbatore: Around 1.3 kg of marijuana was seized during a vehicle inspection here at Big Bazaar Street on Monday. Police have arrested three people in connection with the case.
Acting upon a tip off that few people belonging from North India have been involved in smuggling marijuana in the city, Deputy Commissioner, Law and Order, L. Balaji Saravanan had instructed the police to stay vigil on the issue and ordered to nab the gang.
During a vehicle inspection on Monday, the police intercepted a car near Big Bazaar street and found 1.3 kg of marijuana hidden inside the car.
Investigations revealed that the marijuana was smuggled from Odisha by train and sold to students in Coimbatore. Following this, the police arrested Jayapal, Thiranmahrana and Farundak.
The trio were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and remanded at Coimbatore Central Prison.
