The Former Chief Justice was here in the city to take part as the Chief Guest of 'Indian Cyber Congress (INCYCON)' Edition IV - an initiative by National Cyber Safety & Security Standards on Saturday here at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET).
A joint initiative by SKCET and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, INCYCON aims to create awareness on uprising cyber crimes among students and educational institutions.
Addressing over 500 students, the Former Chief Justice Dipak Misra said "India ranks 23rd among 165 Nations in cybersecurity index and still there is lot of space to grow in future. India should have a cyber space like other countries to address problems related to cyber crimes."
"Artificial Intelligence is a useful tool when rightfully used. Students should never become slaves to such tools, instead should be masters of it", he opined.
He concluded by saying that it is duty of every Indian citizen to maintain sovereignty and integrity.
Dr.M.Ravi, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in his special address speech said that cyber crime is the biggest challenge for any country than terrorism. Quoting the cyber attack of USA on Iran which took Iran a decade back in nuclear weapon, he said that many such uninformed war is happening between countries.
Naming some websites which uses internet in an adverse way, the AGDP said that internet has become an instrument to commit crime and suicide. He added that this event will give an clear insight about the problem and redressal in cyber security.
Justice K.N Basha, Former Judge, Madras High Court and Former Chairman – Intellectual Property Appellate Board in his speech said Judiciary and police officials have to be given training in the area of cyber security. He advised the students and participants to stay away from the Internet frauds.
He pointed that it feels sad to learn that Tamil Nadu is one of the prime victim that loses money due to cyber frauds. He also congratulated the Tamil Nadu Police for their swift actions cyber crimes.
Dr. E. Khalieraaj, Additional Director – General, National Cyber Safety and Security Standards, New Delhi, in his speech thanked, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for forming social media monitoring committee to monitor activities in social media and search engine.
He also extended his appreciation to Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edapadi K Palanisami for forming a separate team to attend crimes committed against women and children.
Expressing his appreciation to ADGP Dr. M. Ravi for bringing dramatic change in Tamil Nadu in addressing crime against women and children, Dr. E. Khalieraaj requested the ADGP to set up more cyber crime police stations in TN to take immediate action against cyber crime and to appoint counselors in every such police station to counsel the victim.
He also requested the youngsters to avoid posting sensual messages in social media.
Meanwhile, S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions presided over the programme, and Dr.J.Janet, Principal of the college welcomed the gathering.
