Chennai: Alleging that misinformation campaign is being peddled by opposition parties including DMK and Congress on the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, the State BJP unit held a protest in Chennai to clarify the stance on CAA and to appeal to the people especially students to not fall prey to false information.
The counter protest against CAA by Tamil Nadu BJP at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai was led by senior leaders of the party including former Union minister of state Pon Radhakrishnan, H Raja and Nainar Nagendran.
Addressing the gathering, H. Raja alleged that the whole issue has been misinterpretated to create unrest in the nation. He assured that the Citizenship Amendment was a well thought process and reitrated the assurance given by Home Minister, Amit Shah that CAA is not against the interests of the minorities.
"Well, the amendment is not the first time but it's the fifth amendment that has happened and first three amendment of the citizenship bill was made during the Congress regime. Where were these protestors, then?" he asked.
Clarifying as to why Muslims have not been added to the list, he said the act is targeted at minorities and people who have undergone religious persecution in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Are Muslims minorities in these countries? he questioned and alleged that the opposition parties are selectively extracting information and brainwashing the people and the students.
H. Raja accused that many of the protestors are clueless on the act and yet are involved in violence leading to unrest. He appealed to the students across the nation not to jump into protests instead make use of their Christmas holidays to rest and read about the Act in detail.
"And, importantly students who are our nations's future should not fall prey to the misinformation on CAA peddled by media and opposition parties", he said.
He also criticised Actor Kushbu for tweeting who is Amit Shah?. Everyone knows who is Amit Shah, he is our Home Minister, he mocked.
Commenting on Actor Rajnikanths's stance requesting people to stay away from.violence, he said "Why are people reprimanding him for his comments? His comments are neutral and it's important that people do not involve in violence, H. Raja opined.
"The opposition parties are asking the Home Minister as to how and who allowed the police to enter Jamia University. The police were forced to enter the University after the students pelted stones from inside. And, this is the reply Home Minister Amit Shah gave", H. Raja said.
Later, Pon Radhakrishnan also addressed the gathering on CAA and asked people to read the agenda of the Citizenship act thoroughly before jumping into conclusions.
In Coimbatore, similar Counter-CAA protests was led by Former MP, CP Radhakrishnan and Vanathi Srinivasan, General Secretary of TN BJP.
