On December 2, in Nadur, Metyupalayam a 20-feet tall compound wall collapsed on four hutments killing 17 Dalit people including women and children.
The people of the Dalit colony alleged that the wall was built by the owner to avoid the sight of the Dalits and also pointed that all their complaints to demolish the wall did not fetch any results.
The Mettupalayam police registered a case against the owner of the house, Sivasubramaniam and arrested him and imprisoned him in the Coimbatore Central Jail.
Justice Seshaiah of Madras HC who heard the bail petition filed by Sivasubramaniam granted conditional bail to him.
He was ordered to stay in Madurai and sign at the Madurai District Court until further orders.
