Coimbatore: "Democratic way of protests will continue until the Central Government withdraws the Citizenship Amendment Act. The Apex Court should take this issue suo moto and repeal the act which is against the constitution of our nation", said Nellai Mubarak, SDPI President at a press meet in Kottaimedu, Coimbatore.

Alleging that CAA is outrightly against the minorities, he questioned how a democratic government can pass discriminative acts against its own people?

"Furthermore, it is unconstitutional to request people to remain calm and not protest", he added.

Slamming the AIADMK for supporting the Citizenship Act, he said their decision to support CAA will cost them a lot in the upcoming elections.

Nellai Mubarak accused the Tamil Nadu government for portraying Tamil Nadu as Kashmir and keeping the police department in control to subdue the minorities who are fighting against the state. He added that public will not be scared by the violent measures and accused ABVP students to have joined hands with the police in attacking against the protestors.

He reitrated that people will teach a unforgettable lesson to the Tamil Nadu government for backing the CAA.

On behalf of the SDPI party, he said that a series of protests will be held in Madurai, Nellai, Coimbatore and other districts and that the party would mobilize political party leaders and people to raise voice against the CAA.
