Coimbatore: The 28 elephants at the Thekkampatti Rejuvenation Camp for temple elephants are having a time of their lives feasting on healthy green fodder of different varieties.

Around five varieties of green fodder including corn, maize, coconut leaves, sugarcane and palm are offered to the elephants stationed at the 48-days-camp.
The elephants that usually live around humans in noisy environment do not have the luxury of getting green fodder unlike their forest cousins and live largely on rice balls.

However, in order to provide them proper health care and nutritious food, the elephants are given green fodder to ease their digestive system.
According to the veterinary team available at the campsite, temple elephants suffer from serious indigestion problem because of the food that is provided. They tend to recover during the camp by natural food and medicine.
