Coimbatore: The controversial Citizenship Amendment ACt (CAA) has sparked wide spread outrage leading to protests and clashes in several locations of the country. Students across the nation have taken to the streets demanding to revoke CAA which they claim to be discriminatory and also protesting against the violence unleashed by the police on student communities in New Delhi and Assam.

Showing their support and solidarity to the protesting students against CAA, the students of Bishop Appasamy College here resorted to a sit-in protest at their college premises on Thursday.

The students raised slogans to cancel the citizenship act and also sought justice for the students who were attacked by the police.

The students recalled the three-millennia old Tamil poet and philosopher Kaniyan Poongundranar and his famous verse 'Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir' to highlight the essence of unity in diversity and emphasise the feeling of kinship among all people in the world.

They stressed that the country should not divided by religion and that the integrity and the secularism of India should be maintained intact at all times.

"Ignoring refugees and being divisive based on religion is unconstitutional", they opined.
