Coimbatore: In a swift move, the Karumathampatti police arrested a gang and parents involved in selling a new born baby.
Kannan and Jyoti, a couple from Madurai living near Karumathampatti, Coimbatore decided to sell their 40-day-old male baby to intermediaries. They met brokers - Haseena, Kalyani from Erode district and Zakir Hussain from Madukkarai in Coimbatore and accepted to sell their baby boy for Rs 50,000.
Since the beginning, the brokers had been quarrelling among themselves over commissions. On December 17, the parents of the baby and the trio were enroute to Sulur to complete the deal. Meanwhile, they entered into a heated argument following which Kalyani jumped off the moving car near Pappampatti Pirivu.
The public in the vicinity who noticed the bizarre incident alerted the police. The Police then rushed to the scene and stopped the vehicle and investigated.
Following this, Haseena, Kalyani and Zakir Hussain were arrested by the police and taken to the Coimbatore Central Prison. During investigation, the parents of the child who were under investigation escaped from the police station.
Following this, the police set up a special team to nab the parents for their involvement in this illegal activity. The special team nabbed the parents in Madurai and were brought to Coimbatore, this morning.
