Coimbatore: The Nilgiris District Collector, J. Innocent Divya on Wednesday inaugurated the planting operations for the 124th annual Flower Show to be held at the Government Botanical Garden in Ooty.
Coimbatore: The Nilgiris District Collector, J. Innocent Divya on Wednesday inaugurated the planting operations for the 124th annual Flower Show to be held at the Government Botanical Garden in Ooty.
Addressing the media, she said that the Kurinji flower which blooms once in twelve years will be the show stealer in the 124th annual flower show to be held in May 2020.
The District Collector along with V. Sasi Mohan, SP of the Nilgiris District and Siva Subramaniam Samraj, Joint Director of Horticulture, The Nilgiris, flagged off the planting operations.
Officials said that 5 lakhs flowering plants will be showcased and over 400 varieties of plants including imported varieties will be on display. Flowers including cyclamen plants, gloxinia, ranunculus, geraniums, oriental and Asiatic lilies, daliahs, delphiniums, verbenas, sunflowers, French marigold, among many others will enthrall the visitors.
Imported Seeds from different parts of the world, including Holland, U.S, Japan, are being grown at the botanical garden and State horticultural farms. The plants will be then planted in pots and kept for display during the flower show, said the officials.
