Public can view the eclipse from 8 am to 11 am on December 26.
"After a gap of 350 years, a full solar eclipse can be witnessed from Tirupur, Erode, Coimbatore and the Nilgiris. To view the eclipse, 25,000 special eclipse glasses have been distributed to schools and public across Tirupur district", they noted.
They also warned that under no circumstances, people should see the eclipse in naked eyes.
Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a Sun filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses are not safe as Sun's UV radiation can seriously injure the retinas in the eyes. Solar filters must if eclipse is witnessed using binoculars or a telescope.
