Coimbatore: Traffic was halted for more than an hour on the Mettupalayam - Kotagiri road after the lone elephant which has camped on the stretch charged the motorists, on the early hours of Wednesday.
Coimbatore: Traffic was halted for more than an hour on the Mettupalayam - Kotagiri road after the lone elephant which has camped on the stretch charged the motorists, on the early hours of Wednesday.
The motorists recall it as a 'terrifying moment',;as the lone elephant which was lurking around bushes stormed into the road and began chasing the vehicles. The motorists dropped their two-wheelers and ran hither and thither to escape from the elephant.
Vehicles queued up in the stretch as the elephant was blocking the traffic for over an hour. As heavy mists prevails in the area, the motorists stated that due to low visibility it becomes very riskier to drive through the stretch.
"The elephant would storm into the road anytime. Hence, the forest department should expedite the process of chasing the elephant into the forest", they urged.
It may be recalled that the forest department has already cautioned the motorists travelling on MTP-Kotagiri stretch to drive with care.
