Coimbatore: Claiming that they have been denied all basic amenities by the authorities, villagers of the Pogalur Village in Annur have decided to boycott the local body elections here.
The village hosts more than 1000 houses and the families are forced to live unfortunate lives because of the condition of the village which lacks basic amenities like sanitation, street lights, road connectivity among others.
The people have claimed that in the wards 4 and 5, no proper roads have been laid. They are also reportedly deprived of proper street light, electricity and drinking water.
According to one of the villagers, the authorities have taken out the existing bitumen road to give way for a new road. However, despite conducting the groundbreaking ceremony many years ago, no progress had been made in the work and people are forced to use a heavily damaged road filled with rocks for three kilo meters.
In addition, the villagers claimed that children studying in a primary school here were shifted to a library building as the school building was weak. However, even that has not been rectified since 2016.
