Coimbatore: Joining the nationwide protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) that was imposed by the Central Government, all Jamaths Islamic organisations in Coimbatore have decided to close down shops, on Friday.

Briefing media persons at the Coimbatore Press Club on Monday, Coordinator of the organisations, Raja Hussain said that the shops run by the organisation members would also bear black flag, as a mark of protest.

“The Government, in order to prevent people from knowing its fall down, is creating religious violence by passing bills targeting Muslims in the country. It is trying to separate the people based on religious grounds,” he said.

He further added that the centre was cheating the migrants here by cancelling the citizenship for migrants from the countries of Sri Lanka, Burma and Myanmar.

“The Government is also dealing with protesters violently, which is condemned,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the AIADMK led State Government that had supported the bill, he warmed that the government would face the consequences.

Adding that people should get enough awareness of such bills, he further claimed that more than 5000 people would participate in the public meeting on Friday near Athupalam in Coimbatore.

Members from Indian Union Muslim League, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, Popular Front of India and Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi participated in the press briefing.
