Nilgiris: The villagers of Manjoor and tribals of Mulli have expressed a huge sigh of relief, as the bear which frequently strayed into the residential areas triggering panic, was trapped by the Forest Department on Saturday.

which frequently strayed into the residential areas triggering panic, was trapped by the Forest Department on Saturday.
Recently, a lone adult bear frequented the farmlands, residential area, temples and ration shops in Manjoor and around Mulli hills. The bear broke into houses and grocery shops to consume eatables. In the latest incident, the bear entered a temple and consumed litres of oil stocked to light lamps.
Following this, the villagers sought the help of the Forest Department to chase the animal into deep forests. Acting upon their request, the foresters set a trap with fruits, as bait near the temple premises close to Mulli hills.
On Saturday early morning, the bearvisited the spot and got trapped in the cage. As the trapped bear was seen ferocious and was continously attempting to break the cage, the villagers closed the cage with a cloth and informed the foresters.
Later, the foresters released the bear into Kundha forest range.
