Coimbatore: Understanding the fact that Road Safety is not only the shared concern but also the shared responsibility of the government and a range of civil society stakeholders including Industries, Media, NGOs and every common man in the society, NGO Uyir which was started in 2018 in its recent initiative has involved school and college students to act as ambassadors for road safety.

Besides, the 'Kutty Cops' initiative which enlightens school children on road safety and inturn use them to educate the masses, the trust has formed ‘Uyir Clubs’ across many colleges in the city to rope in college students to carry ‘in campus’ activities and also ‘on the road’ activities to promote road safety.
As one of the major projects of Uyir Expressing their support for the cause, on December 13 the students of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) who are also part of the 'Uyir Club', gathered at the Saravanampatti junction and assisted the cops in managing traffic and sensitised the motorists on the importance of following traffic rules.
According to Dr. S Rajasekaran, Managing Trustee of Uyir trust, "A study by Uyir and City Police showed that nearly 45% of the accidents occurred in only 40 locations mainly on the arterial roads such as Avinashi Road, Trichy Road, Mettupalayam Road, Sathyamangalam Road, Pollachi Road and Palghat Road. If traffic signals at these locations could be monitored, accidents could be curtailed."
