Coimbatore: Demanding to build new houses in place of the 960 dilapidated houses of the Singanallur housing board, more than 500 DMK cadres staged a demonstration led by MLA N. Karthik on Friday.
As informed earlier, the MLA along with DMK cadres and a few residents of the housing board took part in the protest condemning the concerned department and the State government for not paying heed to the pleas to build a new housing unit in place of the old buildings which are in a pathetic state.
MLA Karthik also proposed that alternate residences must be provided to the residents, until new ones are built.
It may be noted that the hundreds of residents representating the welfare association of the housing board today petitioned the District Collector to take action on their request. They also requested all political parties to stay away from the issue.
"Don't politicise our pleas", they said.
