Over a week, a lone elephant has been straying on the MTP-Kotagiri stretch near Kunjapanai Village. Motorists travelling on the stretch during late evenings and early mornings had encountered the elephant which at times had charged at them.
On Friday, two men travelling on a two-wheeler from MTP to Kotagiri panicked and ran leaving the two-wheeler on the road, after they encountered the lone elephant at close quarters. A lorry driver who had parked his vehicle on the side ways rescued the men from being attacked by the elephant.
The elephant which was seen in a ferocious state moved swiftly towards their vehicle and kicked it. Though no casualties were reported, the incident created panic among the motorists who have urged the forest department to chase the elephant into deep forests.
